I really like this image. It is really well named too. It's stark, moody, cold, lonely and a study of depression.

In a way, that's a shame as it is a very striking image. One of the best I've seen here. But on the other hand we don't want "Picture of the Week" to turn into "Pro Photographers' Picture of the Week"

I agree, and more to the point, I also don't want it to become a showcase of x's work, whomever "x" might happen to be. While I recognise and accept the need to try to get the "best" image each week, something like that would devalue the intent, IMHO.

And again, the guidelines I've given the mods are pretty well wide open; I'm hoping that will encourage creativity in the selection process as well. To my mind, the selected photo needn't be "the best" , whatever that might mean, but should hopefully provoke discussion.

What can i say, but WOW Certainly a good add for a lifeline, depression add.
Very creative, striking and this is what photography is all about the heart and soul of this picture tells it all.

to answer some of your questions, this is actually my wife sitting in a little shelter that you find every 1 kilometer of a 5 km dike that goes out into the water in Richmond, like a break water i guess.....this was about half way out...on a foggy or unclear day you cant even see the end of the dike...kinda strange feeling as u walk into what seems like an eternal road to nowhere...
it was a foggy dark day to start with, but me and some friends were walking back and i just got Raychelyn to sit there and told her to put her head down (that was posed)... i shot a few shots, but already had an idea of what i was aiming for..dark and spooky....

when i got home and looked at the images, i then noticed how the structure that she was sitting in has a big cross on it..i was like WHOA!

someone asked what PP was done...i will post the original when i get home today, but basically i used PS to darken the sky a bit more and to darken my wife enough that she was nothing more than a sillouette...she was wearing a bright red sweater which probably wouldnt look great in such a dark image....other than that, i just converted to black and white.
that's about it...

as for school, im taking a digital photography course at a place called Focal Point here in Vancouver...its been a blast...learned alot, but still think the best way to learn is shoot shoot shoot. we did some model shoots yesterday, and i will post some nice images i made there when i have time......

anyways, sorry for such a long post...

Terriffic Dee. Love it. I've been on these roads before, but never seen the waves like that. Also, the road sort of dissipates. Is that the mist or something?

It's been interesting to see a lot of foggy and misty pics come up from the vancouver users of Flickr. I was anxious to see what you had. Unfortunatly the North Shore stayed clear of the fog for the most part.

Edit: One thing I notice with the D70 is a sort of layering or something when I darken the sky, I get these sort of channels of light to dark. Sort of tricky when you're trying to darken the sky. does anyone have any solutions to this problem?

I'm very touched by this photo.

I like the title, it suits it well, cleansed of the effects of sin by time, the wind and sea foam before heading down the path to heaven.
