Re: Cemetery shotsDave, I think the second image is better thanb the first. Why? Because you followed the rule ot thirds. In fact I would go back to the original and crop it to ensure that the main subject is in the intersection. I would even blur the background just a little more to make it less distracting.
The first image, I feel that the bottom part of the subject is missing and this upsets my autistic perception. So if you don't have the missing bottom part in the original picture why don't you crop the top part to frame it more tightly, but following the rule of thirds. Ilike your choice of black and white and also the contrast in both pictures because death is definetly not colourful. I don't think taking pictures in a cemetery is as easy as it looks because you have to decide what to leave in and out of the frame.
Re: Cemetry shotsI would like to see more of both of the monuments. The first you have cut off near the bottom and I like the idea of the second but would also like to read the writing that is just visible.
Nikon D7000
Re: Cemetry shotsThanks
The first one i didnt know what to do with as i centred the whole thing too much,I can restore the lower part. With the second one i didnt feel comfortable with peoples names in the image, not sure what the etiquette is in a cemetry. Nikon D7100/D7200, Nikkor 18-55, Nikkor 55-300, Nikkor 30, Nikkor 105 macro, Nikkor 10 - 24, Tokina 11 - 16, Tamron 150-600mm, SB600, Misc other

Re: Cemetry shotsI think I prefer this one.
Re: Cemetry shotsImage number 2 is certainly a standout. The detail in the topic is typical of a graveyard shot, but the background tells the real image of the photo. Number 1 really did nothing for me initally but the recrop was an improvemnet on the original.

Re: Cemetry shotsExcellent conversions! On my monitor they are totally neutral and look like genuine B&W film shots.

Re: Cemetry shots
I think #2 is the best of the pair. You could, if you so desired, burn in a few of the highlights in the sky on #2 to add a bit more drama to the sky as the highlights are there but just a little bland. It would also help the monument stand out a tad more.
