Some shots from the Aussie Muscle yesterday... I am happy with my pans, the first two are straight out of camera, no sharpening

Number 1 gives the best feelings of the drags for me, and I think I spy a certain photog from Newcastle on the right of the frame :)

Mind if I ask what equipment you use? My FH would love it if I could eventually get some photos like that :)

Not bad mate, your panning looks good to me. Like the 1st pic - shame the tog is blocking part of the car though :x

Yeah all those pros could stand on the other side so us amateurs could get some decent shots!

Equipment - I was using D3 + 18-200VR, in crop mode - which uses the conversion factor so effectively close to 300mm. I found the VR helped, as you would be holding the camera for a while waiting for the green lights, and I think it helped with the panning. Most shots were taken at around F6.3 - F8, which gave me a nice large depth of field so I didn't have to re-focus too often as they moved across the field of view.

What's an FH?

It was overcast in the afternoon so a nice even light.
