Another pic taken with this fabulous lens. The flower on the right hand side is so in focus that you can see the individual hairs on the pod thingy.

Comments always welcome

...and the transparency carried thru to the bokeh just put me off this lens. ;)

Chris,

Another 'great shot' with your Sigma glass.

The colour of the flower (purple/lavendar) on your pod thingy, is one of my favourite colours as well as red/burgundy of roses.

Have a great day,
Seeya soon
:)

GregB, I think he's saying he doesn't like the bokeh on this lens.

Sirhc, I think this shot could of been better if you'd got an assistant or used something to tie down the out of focus branch in the foreground. It's kind of distracting. Then you could of centered the flower a bit more.

I agree kipper, but Onyx is obsessed with bokeh :) (no offence Onyx)

I just don't understand the transparency reference.....

If I have to say anything bad about Sigma it would be the number of blades - 8, if I remember correctly. IMO a better bokeh is produced with an odd number of blades.

Yes, kipper I agree with your observation. I have been thinking of buying a Plamp for this purpose.

Chris, I like the eight sided bokeh, it is barely perceptible anyway, but to the degree that it is, I like it.

xerebus, you are very easily distracted.

What's wrong with a roll of gaffa?

Gaffa it will be - just don’t want to hurt the plants

It's funny, I never really get peeved off with the way blades produce heptagons or circular bokeh. Sometimes I think circular does look nice, othertimes I like the squarish edges. For instance, I know Onyx will disagree, but candlelight shots I think look nicer with the straight edge bokeh.

bokeh schmokeh.

Chris, I like it. And I can't wait to get my hands on the Sigma I've just ordered from Birdy.

cheers
Peter

it only AUD520 at Birddogs special price, if you break it down over 10 month then AUD52 a month is all you need

That's a great way of looking at it! Less then the cost of a can of Coke a day

Greg, as has been answered - it's the bokeh freak in me. The transparency of the optics in this glass, projecting the aperture blades onto the focal plane and into the image highlights.
