well i got called out by the organisers the drift events at calder park this evening to checkout the lastest supercharger holden ute which came in from SA. They told me its worth 200k.
anyway i saw this "photog" only carring a tripod and no others bag at first which puzzled me. then i saw it......Something the ss members had talked about, ppl with ps using tripods or monopods. guess we're slowly ending up like the us.

Yes,
They're little munchkin tripods. I saw a lot of them when touring Alcatraz. My wife thought it was the funniest thing ever. She laughed and laughed. I tried to explain to her that it really helps the shot, and she was like, "I don't care it looks really goofy."

Thanks for this. It looks strange doesn't it. Would make me feel even more inadequate than I do with a monopod

I would give the guy 100% for temerity and 1% for the camera
Whoops, nearly forgot - 0.5% for the tripod. . .

Is that a remote cable release that I see? The camera/tripod combo probably works really well together. I think that the guy is simply getting the very best out of what he has got. Good on him. He probably gets some really nice pics for what... $500???
Cheers

You are perfectly correct. We need to be careful we don't become camera snobs.
I just hope it's not a Canon

I am definetly not a camera snob. in fact i still have and use several sony cybershots p5,f717 (great ir camera) although my maciva i brought for 20$ for just for kicks.
I am just saying the use of the camera is fine, at least its not a camera phone.
But to use it on a tripod, its extremly difficult to obtain shots. as its was positioned facing cars travelling along side him. (e.g from camera's left to right frame).
Its not going to obtain any results as the shutter lag is over a second to focus and shoot, even if you put my flagship f717(shutter lag of at least 1sec) or d70/f5 on a tripod in the same position i wouldn't expect too much from it. He was better off just hand holding it.
At least the photog learnt the error of his ways real soon and packed away his tripod. to find a better position.
