These guys were striking poses. man it was cracking me up. lol
This was REALLY close to a whole flock of a few hundred of them. Some were brave enough to hang around and let me get close.

I love the first.. It gives a great sense of community which is a important part of these birds lives it would appear.

Rooz, you said you were close, but you didn't tell us you shot these with the 50mm 1.4 -- very tame indeed.
And I also have to comment that it is really nice to see a slightly larger image than the 800 pixel variant, so much nicer to look at.
Great shots, you inspire me to start using my 1.4 a bit -- maybe tomorrow at Adelaide Zoo minimeet would be a good op.

surenj. you know, i've been taking photos of lorikeets for ages and your comment just switched a little light on inside my head. you're so right. i've missed the point a little when taking these shots. they do have individual beauty, but they also belong to a close knit community. thanks for putting it in clear perspective.

nice shots hahah this reminds me of my recent trip to Woolongong... i sat down on the grass, had the camera on the grass with Phottix remote and trigger in hand, 12-24mm lens. baited seagulls into the shot and fired away..

the last 2 are probably my faves to be honest :)
