Here are a few pics from my new camera. 2nd hand 30d with a Nifty Fifty. Feel free to comment as constructive criticism will only help me develop my skills.

P.s. I know theres dust on my sensor and i need a wider range of lenses :)

Image
I know theres a bit of lens flare there, i took a few pics at the time and some others dont have it so maybe its the lack of lens hood?

Image
This was with an extension tube. The depth of field made it quite hard to focus on.

Image
I know they say to focus on the eyes, I didnt in this shot as i was trying to emphasize the fact that the camera is whats important in this pic.

Image
I like the colours of the flowers and the blur on the background in this one.

Mike, welcome to the forum. What a nice diverse range of images, like the camera one as it is a different perspective, also the sunrise and flowers.

Mike, you probably didn't realise, we have a limit of 4 images per post

Welcome, and thanks for posting some images for us. We hope to see many more from you.

However, in the pink area, marked "Forum rules", right above your post, you will see that we only allow a maximum of 4 images per post. You have posted 6.

It would be appreciated if you kept that rule in mind for future posts.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Sorry for the extra pics. I started to read the box that stated that so i made sure my pics were the right size but i overlooked the bit about the 4 pics per post. Ive edited the original post to comply.

Mike welcome and enjoy. I really like the last image of the flowers with good use of depth of field.

Welcome Miike, from one newbie to another!
Some great pics there.

Playing with depth of field is so much fun, and it's something that I think separates the creative work that comes from a dslr versus a smaller sensor camera.
It used to frustrate the hell out of me that I couldn't get the results I wanted with my previous point and shoot.

When I bought my camera, I got an 18-200mm to go with it, thinking that it would do everything I'd want, and I wouldn't have to change lenses... I've since discovered that it does a pretty good job of lots of things, but I now have four other lenses to choose from! (I think I have lens issues...)

(That's not supposed to sound like I'm bragging... just advice to stick with what you've got, until you work out the range you think you might want, then buy the fastest one you can afford!)

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but you were shooting straight into the sun, so a hood wouldn't have helped you with the sunset shot.

I just bought a 50mm, and I'm looking forward to getting results like yours.
