Snug Falls, Tasmania

We walked into Snug Falls on the weekend. It's a short walk down into what can best be described as a small canyon.
You don't get much light down at the falls so the exposure can be a bit tricky especially when you want some cloud/sky in the shot.
This is my latest attempt.

Lovely shots John, nice dynamic range...are these HDR?
My only suggestion is to play a little with your levels and boost contrast a bit.

I like the first one  , mainly since the fallen tree is not blocking the falls, the tree seems to break the flow of the picture.

I can appreciate how hard it is to get nice waterfall shots with sky and cloud involved, I have tried this with just the polarizer but still struggled, I think a Grad ND filter would help.

Did you take a swim? or was it a bit nipply ? it looks very nice there.

john, looks to me like that second one in particualr, (trees on the top right), have that high D-lighting kinda grey look.
otherwise, i like the composition and the shutter speed effect.

Thanks for the comments. These are in fact HDR images, 9 shots bracketed. They loose a bit of contrast in the tone mapping unfortunately. I've bought some contrast back in, but probably not enough. It was very dark down at the base of the falls so I don't think there was any way other than HDR that could have produced this image.

I didn't go for a swim as it was about 5 degrees at the time. I did end up ankle deep in water though. It was as slippery as hell walking around on wet rocks juggling my D3 and tripod.

Cheers
John

You're a brave man John, D3, slippery wet rocks = potential disaster!
