Okay, time keeps slipping by but I finally get to post a few images. I had to get a few pet photos of something that I don't normally do. As some of you would know, I'm more of a dog person but here are a couple that I enjoyed doing.

Daisy the Russion Blue. She is a great young cat, only 1 year old. She was having plenty of fun running through the house and this tunnel of hers. Once I get my cloning skills improved, I'll clean up a few bits out of the way.


Bruce the Diamond Python (c)

I call him Bruce but not really sure what his name is. He is a male diamond python, about 1.7 metres long. I did this with my Tamron 90mm. He ended up being about 30cm from the front of the lens as I add the camera on a bean bag. I was glad my friend was holding on to him.

Andre, like them both. Would probably like a bit more DOF on Bruce to get his snout (?) in focus but at 1/40th and f10 there is not much you can do. (Or try a D3 and ISO 3200 )

Funny I was thinking the same thing about Bruce I do like the narrow DOF though, gives me the impression that his eyes are the dangerous bit (even though I know they aren't)...

I must say, a D3 or D700 would have been perfect for this

Anyway, in lacking funds for such a beast, here is a side on photo, does it work better? The position of the body of the snake is not quite as nice in this one, I think.

I think I do prefer the second Andre, I must say I found the first a better composition but prefer the greater degree of focus on the second

Hi Andre,

You might like to consider cropping a little from the top in the second. This will reduce the amount of the body visible in the background.

I think Gary hit the nail on the head. It will be a great shot with just a little less going on in the top of frame. Good looking snake.

I love the shot of Daisy, well done.

As for Bruce, if you call him Bruce, then that is his name.

I like the shot of Daisy. I think I would prefer if she was looking the other way (into the space). Either that, or have the blank space on the other side.

For Bruce, I much prefer the second version because of the whole head is sharp. I agree with Gary's crop suggestion, in fact you could probably do top and left and maintain the aspect ratio.
