Presentation wise, it would help if you post these pictures a little bigger.
I see they are 500 pixels on the longest side, but you can go to 800.
Secondly, I would separate the 2 images to present them better.
I quite like the first image, you've caught an intense brooding expression on his face.
The emu shot suffers from a bland but distracting background.
Changing your position so that the emu has a different background might have helped.
I also think turning your camera to shoot this one vertically (portrait style) would have been good in this case.
It's hard to photograph birds front on, generally shooting from the side gives a better result with more of the bird in focus.
I like the depth of focus used in both these shots though, which separates the animal from its background,
and also that you shot from eye level with each animal.
