Sorry Redline, mines bigger than yours

PS, struggling to get it look like the way it does in Photoshop. Looks perfect there, sky is too blue in web and the shadows aren't defined as much as PS.

It's also nicer if you have CPL on!
It'll make the blue sky little bit darker against with the color scheme of the airframe.

Birddog, or Killa or Nikon Boy, you guys may know, do the pilots & ground forces tell who is who by electronic signalling devices? I remember reading that and after looking at the flying kangaroos on this plane, I couldn't imagine trying to ID a plane by them at 700 kph :wink:

VR would not have made any differance to that shot at is was at 1/1000 so yeh dont need VR to shoot at that speed.

Yes. both sides can! even the IP can tell who's his student by the way the pilot flies the aircraft in an attacking or approaching mode.

Yeah it's funny that BBJ, I had VR on for most of the time I was at the GP and I was shooting for the F1 cars > 1000. Then I experimented today because I felt at times the VR was hampering snapshots. The VR to me at times felt like it was over compensating and I wasn't framing the shots, missing bits of the car out of the frame. So I tried it without, and I felt that I could pan at variable speeds (ie. fast->slow pan).

VR won't affect the panning and won't cause any overcompensation.

You don't need the TC on it but it's nice to have it on! perhap with 1.7.

I hardly ever have VR on as no good with panning as it sences when it is panning and switches off i think in fast panning. VR be good with some things like birding and so on but anything hight speed i think it make a lot of differance, but handy to have.

Rob, true but the 70-200VR +TC is a quarter of the price of the 200-400VR. With the TC it takes you upto 370-380MM. While you lose a few fstops, and a bit of quality....for the money it's damn good

Yeah I was thinking that with the 200-400VR with a TC you could of got some nice shots of the helmets and some really good closeups of the airplanes. Then again with a D2X you could just crop!

Speaking of the gear performing tricks. I had the D70 out, 70-200VR on with the TC. People were taking shots of the gorgeous girls nice and close to them, I stand about 5-10m away and Im taking shots. The girls see the gear and as by magic they all turn and pose. I was impressed.

Listen! when you have the D2x + 200-400VR, some young ladies will pose for you, hand their biz cards to you and ask you to call, same as our BBJ, he had done a photo shoot for a guy who was flying at his local airport.

Rob, yep....thats what I was saying to Birdy earlier. Imho the D70 just doesn't cut it for sports (or even papparazi shots). The F1GP proved that to me. You get a lot of keepers but the speed of the D2X would leave the D70 for dead and would result in a lot more different shots that might of not turned out on the D70. Also the higher resolution means you can crop in to say half of the car without it looking pixellated.

i have all the glass covered except for the 85-1.4 all i need is a faster frame rate..... are you saying the d2x or d2h take better photo's than the d70 ?

D2x has twice the number of pixels for the same or lower noise and according to what I have read a real good auto WB

Even the D2h has 4MP but its performance and its features more better than the D70. D2h gives you more well balance with the big glasses and its body built with solidity, comfy in your hand.
Yes, definetely, the D2x is superb in comparison with the D70 with all aspect.

Actually, I was experiencing what Kipper is describing here too.

It's not so much overcompensating, but the VR retaining its hold on the previous image before it releases it, but you're already wanting to move on to the next one.

That's how I was seeing it. Under normal circumstances you can see the VR release its hold on the lens about a quarter of a second after you make the exposure. That's exactly what I was seeing under the faster moving scenarios as well.
