Mixed feelings about these. All straight OOC. [EDIT: Swapped a couple our with PS conversions of the RAW, no processing, rather than camera JPGs, as they looked better to me.]

I really like the first two - they are full of emotion, but not of desolation, more loneliness

I like the semi-transparent look of number 3 almost spooky.. Great work

#1 ... was there a light just out of the picture? If so, I think that this image could benefit from its inclusion. if not, I think a little cropped from the top. I also get a feeling that the model has feet, and that they should have been included in this image.

#4 could also perhaps benefit from some cropping, although I'd again like to see what he's looking at.

Thank you all, really awesome comments and actually helped me a lot sort out where I stand on these. I think a few of my gripes weren't really a problem, so I am liking them more and more, the printed version have come up well also.

Loneliness is probably a better title actually. I started with desolation as the idea that ultimately became these shots but after a few iterations, I think the idea has shifted away from that.

Thanks, this one was actually a triple exposure in camera. Each face is one shot, and the background was a separate shot that I took first. I'd never really used that feature of the camera so came up with this idea to see how it goes.

Yes there was, and I think I agree with you. I'd left the wider lens in the car and was too lazy to go and grab it but I think I probably should have. I had thought about going back down and having another go so may yet do so.

In #4 the expanse of black and the fact that he is looking out of the frame were intentional, I like the tension and awkwardness it creates in the image. It leaves question marks and it makes you get a bit lost, just like he is. I have a couple where you can see more, and he is basically just looking at the light that illuminates his face, but none are as strong, though in those he is looking forward.

Funnily enough the looking up worked really well and it wasn't my idea. I was getting him to look to the side and lift his head a little to get the light under the hat and he looked up, and it was really strong so I went with it.

#1 and #4 are my faves. dunno why you have mixed feelings, they are both fantastic. agree with chris, this says "loneliness" to me aswell.
the 2nd is a bit too dark imo and i not quite as sharp.
