Well I only managed to get photos for 'emotion' that I was happy with. Oh yes - everybody I'd like you to meet Oliver! 10 weeks old now. I've hardly been posting, as I've been spending lots of time with the family and less behind the lens.

Andy, love these pictures of Oliver, I can't believe how much he appears to have grown in just two weeks.
I really like the contract in expression, I've noticed the difference in white balance, I wondered if it was intentional since the sad one is cooler and the happy one is noticably warmer ? Either way, I like them, perhaps if happy had a little more room on the LHS. but that is be ultra picky.

From a learning standpoint im pleased to say that i anticipated both of your suggestions. In fact they are both cropped and I did actually go through a couple of adustments where i added more to the LHS - but probably not enough. I'll give it another go.

Regarding WB - well I was quite simply having trouble getting 'sad' right. i think it might be overexposed in the first instance and perhaps a few harsh shadows that i trouble dealing with. Any suggestions for correcting it? And yes i did decide that i could get away with it because its 'sad' - but this is more just an excuse rather than by design.

Andy - Out of interest how were you trying to correct the white balance as theres a few tricks that might help, but it also depends on what software you were using.

Well I was holding Oliver in my left arm, and then tapping at the keyboard at random with my right hand, but he doesn't like sitting still for long so I did have to rush.



I was using lightroom. Not sure what to say other than sliding the WB, exposure, brightness and contrast to get it as good as I could. But there is no method to my madness.

So any tips are welcome.



Did I mention those photos are just 12 seconds apart?

I could be in the minority but I prefer the WB on the left hand shot, actually - the right one just looks a little too pink for my tastes.

Cute set of shots, though. Did you try them in the reversed position as well, ie happy on the left?
