King of the couch

With nothing but the built-in flash on my D70, I have to make do with available light. Luckily, my recent purchase of a 50mm f1.4 lens has really helped make this possible. A few weeks ago I noticed some fantastic light from an overcast sky coming through the window, and shot these portraits of our Bengal cat. They are definitely my favourites of all the photos we've taken of him - I absolutely love the 50mm lens!

I'm interested in hearing which of the two you think is best - its a question I haven't really been able to answer myself.

Hi latch, I like both but definitely prefer the second - really well done. The background is cleaner with one single uniform colour and the eye contact really makes the photo

Lachlan - what a gorgeous pair of photos !!! I love the first shot the best, probably because I adore profile shots, but the second is fantastic with that straight on eye contact !! Got to love that lens - who needs a flash when you get shot like this ??? :)

That's one attractive cat and two excellent photographs of it. I have difficulty choosing between the two shots. I love the eye contact in the second but the slight difference in lighting of each eye distracts me. The first one gives the feeling of looking into the cat's world without it knowing.

I feel absolutely no need to nominate one as the better of the two. They are both
excellent, great looking cat, great shots.

I must in all honesty vote for the arrogance of #2
