Awesome second for perspective but too bad about the blown out light. You might be able to pseudoHDR it even with one exposure though.

I have something of a love/hate relationship with such lighting... I often find that, whilst the blown highlight might be distracting, removing it from the scene can result in a lack of dimension, rendering the image somewhat flat. I am of the view that the raw blown lights are an integral part of the scene. Maybe that's just me trying to justify a flaw in the image but I actually find flawless images lack a little...mmm... soul? Comes back to discussions I can remember some years back on the need for tack sharp, in-focus images... I think it was Leigh back then that demonstrated that unconvenional, blurred, tilted images had plenty to say.

At least that's the story I'm sticking to now I've posted the photo...

The second one is quite good, great composition and I love the way the lines are generated within it - really gives the perception of the staircase disappearing into space!

man, imagine coming home after a hard night out on the plonk and having to tackle those stairs , with that said that first image plays with my head, i thought doors were rectangular!

I don't mind the blown highlight, but its all a matter of perspective...

Thx biggerry... in fact I did just that for a week earlier this year which is what prompted me to capture the image.
You gotta love the weird perspectives you can get out of a 10mm focal length... pretty close to how I perceived the door each evening round 1:30am !!!

ouch....well it is important to have correct images of your memories!

now all you need is a cute french maid at the top of the stairs!

seriously though, the more I look at that second one the more I like it! well done.

I really like #2, the lines and the BW really work for it. I would have to vote to try a pseudo HDR on it or even just burn it in and see if you can get a little more out of it.

Certainly you may ask Wendell... taken in a little hotel next to the Pantheon... called 'Hotel de Grande Homme'.
I can recommend this hotel quite highly... as long as you don't wish to swing a cat...

Flipping through my trip image collection it seems that I either spent most of my time looking in buildings at strange angles or experiencing a significant religious conversion (i.e. loads of church pics).

The 1st image is a cracker. (I did get a bit seasick looking at it though! )
