Motorbikes at EC

Hi All,

went to Eastern Creek on Sunday to photograph a Track Day. Had a lot of fun and learned a few things.
Am after a little bit of C&C as far as overall images and composition go. This was my second time at a race track, and first time photographing motorcycles, so be gentile please

The last should be good but it feels a little empty or doesnt convey any speed?? not sure exactly.

I clicked on for larger and looked through your flikr, my fave is 26. i think the blur adds to feel of speed.

For a first go they are awesome.

Could it be the oversharpening?

That's the issue that I see with each of these. You have the panning nailed, and likewise the colours and wb.

But you've gone a little bit too far in the final wrap-up of your post: the sharpening has been over done. Look at the leading edge of the front tyre in the first three images, and you will see evidence of haloing. If you can see this anywhere in your image, you've gone too far, and you need to adjust the sharpening that you're applying accordingly.

There is too much USM on all of them because the panning was not as sharp as I would have liked. And when sharpening i was concentrating my attention to the rider and writing on the bike, and missed the rest of the image Now that you have pointed out the halo around the wheels, it sticks out like... well you know...

Unfortunately, extra sharpening doesn't make up for any lack of sharpness in the actual image. The key here is more time at the track, shooting more images, and perfecting your technique.

But also, there's no rule that says that these images must be razor sharp. Pull the USM back a bit, and post the results ... perhaps just a nudge larger. I think that you may be surprised at how good they may look, even when not as sharp as you think they should be.

Actually i have checked and it looks like flickr is applying it own sharpening for some reason. I don't get nearly as dramatic, if at all haloing.

Hope to make out there this sat as well, although this time without the 70-200 105 will be all the zoom i can master

Like these as for the last one I think the problem is the DOF if it was much shallower it would isolate the bike, cannot see any exif so cannot see the f stop used, on a front on shot like this I'd be using the biggest aperture I could.
Colour looks a bit over saturated as well fine on the bike but the saturation of the rest of the image detracts from the bike.
