Candid portraits are something I don't shoot often so I'd like some feedback on these... cheers.

Hi Jase,
Some nice shots here...
Let me firstly say that I think the best of this series is no. 3 - why? Eye contact.
Whilst you have eye contact in the first one, the focus (to me) seems pretty soft (especially round the eyes where I think it should be the sharpest)...Some gentle post processing of these images could bring them up nicely I think. Exposure on no.1 is spot on, no blown highlights and an image that will be great to bring out at her 21st! Hehe.

The 2nd image is my least favourite - your subject looks dis interested and distracted, perhaps that's what you were aiming for, and as you say - it IS a candid however she looks borderline pissed off. I don't think the lighting helps this either as it's quite bright on her left sife and drops off on the right. Again, to me - this image is soft (not as much as the first one though).

The third image is great - cheeky, fun and has a pensive element to it, which I think is a great characteristic of a good candid shot. Eye contact is lovely, but again - I think it could do with some sharpening.

No.4 - sorry..but this holds little/no interest to me...a pepper grinder and some nuts....whatever is under the bowl of nuts is also pretty distracting. I think this image has some nice DOF usage but that's about it..I'm guessing your focus point was the pepper grinder but again, I find it a little on the soft side.

Hope you find these comments helpful. Thanks for sharing them with us :)
