John,

What sort of PP - and how much of it - have you applied to these images? In the first two, you seem to have introduced (I suspect it was not there otiginally) some sort of an "aura" around the bird, and it doesn't look either right, or good.

In the first image, look at the head and along the back. In the second, again, look around the bird's head.

agree with gary. it was the first thing i noticed. some sort of smudgy/ guassian blur thing going on.
otherwise they're quite nice shots.

I took the top rail of the Hills Hoist off from behind the bird in PP - didn't think it stood out so much?

Like dogs' balls in the first two, I think. :)

If you look around the head, and follow from the head down the back of the bird in the first image ... look just above the head, and you will see what looks like an aura, or perhaps what might be the flow of some fluids around the bird.

And I think I can see some of your PP artifacts in this image .. to the left of the bird's head, about level with the little feather tuft that's on its neck. Immediately to the left of the head there's a horizontal line evident; there's another one just above the dark patch above this one, and yet another immediately to the left of the first. I suspect that the "aura" that I'm seeing is a part of these artifacts ...
