Here are 4 shots taken this morning (after my very first shot for the year).

All are:
Nikon D300, Nikkor 60m f/2.8D, 20mm tube, SB-800, DIY softbox, handheld (resting camera against the trunk of the tree the fly was on)

ISO 200, 1/200s, f/22

Beautiful shots of a particularly ugly subject

It is very brave. How long was it sitting there?

Thanks David.

It was there for quite a while. Initially there were two of them. I spotted them a few minutes before the first shot and the main one was there after I finished shooting. According to the Exif, it was 8 minutes between my first and last shots, so I guess maybe 15 minutes or more. It didn't stay still at all so I had to keep moving and it flew off a few times but came straight back.
