Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

I was very happy with result of this quick snap I took of my daughter heading out for her first driving lesson. I was trialling the 300 2.8 on a D700 and literally just turned, called 'paparazzi' and shot as they backed out

following Wendellts sharpening tips here http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=35341 gave me the best downsized rendition of the image I have so far managed.

I have tried a couple of sharpening actions that are way more detailed but not as effective as Wendells' method.

Many thanks Wendellt

cheers R2

Curious!

Neither the OP's photo or ATJ's repetition of it were showing in my browser, just a black vertical line.
However, by right clicking on the line, I was able to pick up the URL of the image, and view it in a new window.
When I returned to this thread, still open in another tab, the image was showing in both posts, just as it should.

Why is this so?

I suspect some kind of cache issue with SmugMug.

Same symptom for me now, but the fix doesn't work for me.
I am not a member of Smugmug. Maybe that's why.

EDIT:
Using FF3 I previously tried "View image" off shortcut menu
I tried again using "Copy Link", opening a new window and pasting into the address bar. Could see image Ok
Went back to thread. Refreshed. Image appeared momentarily, then went away again.

There is no link. The vertical line is the image. If you right click on it it behaves just like an image and so you can do things like "View Image" or "Copy Image Location".

Nope. Nothing. Nada.

The link in the properties is http://dldigital.smugmug.com/photos/449 ... 8sjP-L.jpg but that shows a big blank page too.

Nice work!

Thanks for the link ATJ, I am not sure what has gone wrong here but it may be something stupid like a missing letter or something like that. I get this sort of problem with my pictures all the time as I host them on my own website so I type in all the addresses and often mess them up.

Cheers

I generally self host too. What I do is call up the picture on the browser. then cut and paste the address from the bar rather than type it out. Between my klutzy fingers and the @#$%$#@! keyboard it's the only way to go!

This has to be a SmugMug issue as the URL is indeed correct and can be used to display the image correctly.

Is your SmugMug gallery set to Public, or is it Unlisted?
Also, have you said "Yes" to allow external links?

I can now see the image. Don't know what has changed.

Back on topic.
I like this image. A quirky sense of fun shows through (surprising given the context!) If you hadn't said otherwise I'd have thought it was set up.

I dont trust the junk that Gallery2 produces so I type in the physical address of the original photo.
