Transient

G'day folks,

This may be one of those you had to be there images....On a recent holiday I was walking through a snow-covered field, and came across this lonely brown leaf, at least 50m from it's parent and 100m from any other leafy thing. With the rising sun and the snow slowly melting, I was struck by the temporary and transient nature of all that is life. I wanted to capture that perspective, and I am not sure that I have done enough with this image to convey that.

I considered a B&W conversion, the image has had a few minor tweaks to curves/WB/saturation and resized with FastStone. Any comments welcome, what can I do with this to make it more impactful (sp)?

Image

Feedback much appreciated,
Thanks

I think your image works well as posted. Perhaps play with cropping a little.

The main problem I have with it is that the snow reads as sugar to me. But that's my addiction, not your photograph :D

Perhaps if you get the chance to take similar again try a slightly more distant shot as well to emphasis the leaf's isolation in the landscape. Also a lower POV might make for an interesting photo.

Don't knock them. Memories like to be jogged once in a while. You will come back to this photograph in many years, and the thoughts and feeling you had that led you to take it will come flooding back.

I like it! It is a great capture, do you have a wider shot? Maybe that will help remove the sugar-snow element for Greg.

The lighting and texture on the leaf is great. I agree with Cameron and Greg - a wider shot, showing some context of the leaf as you described, would be good.

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback! Sugar would be one of those "glass half full" perspectives :) Unfortunately I don't have a wider shot, but you've all certainly given me a few ideas on how I would compose this the next time around - will have to dress warmly if I am going to get so low down!

Many thanks again for the help,
Regards,
