Posted in reverse order, here are two shots from Xmas morning when to my surprise I'd found I had anew lens under the tree. First thing I did was take it for a spin out in the yard

I found this guy spinning a net, I'm not sure what species he is exactly but he was a willing subject.



Then was one a bit more of a prickly character, but I loved the bright colours.



Niether are fantastic, but for the first hour with the lens, I was immediately impressed.

Ops, I didn't mention it in this post, just the other one, the lens is a 90mm Tamron 2.8 Macro.

Oh when you have had more time to play with it I would love to hear ytour opinion... the Tamron 90mm is on our Macro shortlist, along with the Nikkor 105mm. Ahhhh decisions.

The 90mm Tamron macro is a legend. It has been around for over 30 years and much loved by photographers. However...the Nikkor 105mm is also worthy of serious consideration and would be my first choice if finance allowed. Either lens would do the job. Congratulations Craig....enjoy....oh, and try it out with a set of extension tubes for some extreme maco!

The first one is a net casting spider, Deinopis sp. Here's a page about them: http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane ... opidae.htm check out the links because one of them shows how they use the net to catch their prey. It is really cool - and even cooler when you see them do it. You have lit it well.

The cactus is great, too. Nice lighting.

I love my Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D (the old one), even if it means you need to get close. In a few days I will have a Nikkor 200mm f/4D. This will allow me to get closer to more skitty subjects.

Great shots, the underside of the spider does have an interesting look to it, almost like wood. Great detail with the catcus.

Congrats on the 200mm f/4 Andrew, I look forward to seeing what you produce with that considering how well you do with the 60mm
