I was hoping to get something cool for the first image from the new lens. The lens arrived late in the day just as the wind started up. I scouted around the backyard for something interesting and only found some shield bug nymphs. I was going to use the flash/softbox option. For the very first shot, I forgot to turn the flash on. The next two shots were slightly out of focus because:
* the working distance is so much greater and so I needed a larger aperture because of the flash
* the wind was blowing the perch around
* my left arm only just reached to the perch to try to steady it.

Anyway, I gave up on that idea and instead used the pets as models last night and this morning. I can see that for nature shots, I have a lot to get used to with this lens.

Andrew,

So the new toy has arrived. :)

#3: Humour me if you will, and crop this into a pano format, removing a fair bit of the foreground, and most of the top of this image as well. I think it would look good cropped to almost a slit mode: you need to keep just enough of the whatever it is that the cat is hiding beneath so that we can see what it is, but not a lot more than that.

I am.

And I think that's even cuter than the original.
