First nature images from my Nikkor 200mm f/4D

Took the D300 and 200mm lens on the dog walk today hoping to see something worth photographing. It was overcast which meant that the lighting was great albeit not very bright. I had to go with ISO800 because of it and so there's a bit of grain visible in the shots. I'm going to have to build a suitable softbox for use with this lens, but until then, I guess I'll be shooting with available light.

Here are 4 shots from the walk. I love the background in the first.

Common yellow robber fly, Ommatius sp.

Common flatwing damselfly, Austroargiolestes icteromelas.

Tachinid fly, possibly Rutilia sp.

Fantastic images, as always, I will assume that you are having lots of fun with it. I look forward to seeing more pictures from this lens.

Thanks Cameron. I think I will have fun with it - once I get used to it. It is heavy. That was the first thing I noticed when the courier handed me the parcel. I don't think I'd want to use it handhold all that much. On the monopod it is easy to use, especially as it has a tripod collar.

Awesome photos!!!

When I read "Nikkor 200mm ..." I expected something totally different, like birds or seals. What was your shooting distance?

Betty

Betty, Shooting distance for the first was around 1 metre from the end of the lens to the fly. The second was slightly less than a metre. The last 2 were 30-60 cm.
