Weekend at home

Partner in crime was in the mood for a bit of "dress up" for some photos. She wanted to do some black & white shots for a change. I hadn't shot in b&w before so was keen to give it a go.

Found out something interesting that I'm sure you more experienced users have known for ever. Although the camera is set for b&w, the raw image is still in colour. I was quite surprised when after looking through the jpegs and then loading up the raw file to see it change from b&w to colour as if by magic. Wonderful. The best of both worlds except now decisions have to be made as to which version is preferred.

Anyway, very happy with the results and here are some for critique.

I am by no means a portrait expert, but I reckon #1 is the best and a winner, the composition walks all over the other two. The eye contact and sharpness really make it for me. I would be interested in seeing the colour version of #1, it may work better for some :?:

:agree: The lighting in the first is also more flattering.

:agree:

Also, A green, blue or white background would be a better match for the red hair when using the colour shots.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everybody.

#1 is my favourite as well. :)

Here is the colour version of it, Biggery. I can't decide between them. I like both versions. :?

BW for me definitely! Not really sure why....maybe as someone else pointed out the red background may be clashing rather than complimenting....

yeah definitely BW, the more I look the more it becomes the better one, for me anyway!

There are plenty of awesome portrait photogs here, hopefully they can make more coherent sense then me
