Climbing at Brooyar

Hi all,

First post here, lurked for awhile.

Anyway went climbing on the weekend at Brooyar which is about 20mins north of Gympie. I was setting up above the climbers by sitting on a rope in my harness. I haven't had a chance to go through all my shots yet but this was one that stood out straight away.

Only some PP, slight crop and fixed some blown highlights.

That's a fantastic photo. There's so much detail and it certainly tells a story.

The only problem I have with it (and it may not be a problem at all) is as follows... The guy climbing looks like he's doing it tough (and probably is), but you are above him, with a camera, which suggests you had to climb up as well (with a camera) so maybe it wasn't hard at all. Note, I'm not picking on the photograph at all, just voicing something that was going through my head while looking at the photograph.

G'day Mike,
This is where you are glad to have a good strap on the camera. Welcome abaord.

Unless Mike came down from above and just locked off to get a couple of shots. Much easier than climbing up.
Unless the car is at the top and the only way back up is to climb.

A professional quality climbing pic...what else needs to be said. Send it to a climbing magazine with a short story and there's a high chance it will get published.

Wow thanks for the feed back guys!

Colin almost got it, there was a rope fixed from above by Graham (guy climbing) which he used to clean the route a litte that morning before he tried getting the first free ascent (no falls), he didn't get it in this time but it's a rather difficult route, I think he'll get it next time.

I basically ascended the rope he had setup with my gear and got ready to take some photos. Yeah a good neck strap makes you feel better about your camera but it was also secured to my harness with a sling. Though part is changing lenses while hanging about.

I'll have to get into Lightroom this week and go through the rest of my shots.

Cheers,
Mike.

The first two shots of Dave show what you are trying to show, technique and climber working hard.
Great shots.
