Hi folks,

Recently went to the Olympic National Park, a world heritage site, in the north west of Washington State with the express purpose of getting a good sunset and giving the NDGrad and Polariser a run - but alas the weather was terrible and I'll blame my failure on that, okay

But I find myself drawn more towards the abstract/symbolic side of photography at the moment - learning a lot but not quite there yet - so below are three images that I would really appreciate your feedback on to help me get around this corner. Many thanks in advance for looking.

I really like the second one. I think the first one suffers from a lack of colour/contrast in the mountains/sky though. There is so much scenery in the States that I'd love to see, and you've added to the list!

I like #2 a lot but the distortion bottom right especially is holding it back.
I would maybe soften it through there?

I too think a little more contrast in #1 would improve it.

I like the idea in the other 2 and wonder if a more unusual angle would help - #3 in particular looks a little bland from that point of view. For me, getting down on your belly would have made the image more interesting.

They do make me think about carrying around a few different coloured rocks in my camera bag though

Much thanks for the advice and feedback guys!

The Pacific North West is really very pretty - but the weather is so unpredictable, if you choose to visit then plan carefully for the right season and allow a few days, the distances are enormous. These pics were all adjusted using the onOne Photo Tools plugin for CS4 - highly recommended - although some of the actions are not very granular. Fortunately I found this solitary white stone on the beach, it seemed out of place but at least gave me something to occupy myself with whilst waiting for the sun to set - with all the gear in the bag I'd hate to have to add some rocks to it too ;)

I'll take the suggestions and fiddle with the originals - thank you again.

Cheers,

Hi Gary,

Do you really think it's unpredictable? The conventional wisdom it that it's typically going to be wet, miserable and cold. Unless your there in winter, in which case you would expect snow as well. :)
