Portrait 1st attempt

Hi,
1st serious attempt at portrait - is there hope?
Canon 40D 300 4.5 & 1.4 no crop just b/w conversion & frame

Deb - much hope!
This is a fine first portrait which captures the little guy well.
I'd like to see all of his right ear and a tad more of his head in general but over all I think it's a lovely little portrait. A TAD more contrast would be nice too.

I agree, I think it is a very nice photo. Ashton has a cute look on his face and good eye contact with the camera. I find the frame very overwhelming though - very bright and large for the picture. I like the font you used, perhaps a thinner frame?

Hi DebT, I like this composition. Looking at it on my laptop at work it does look like it could do with a little more contrast, but maybe the fairness of his hair and skin lend to this in a positive way.

Anyway, don't give up yet!!

yes now that you have pointed it out it would have looked better with the whole ear ...and the more I look the more I think the face looks distorted/squashed because he was lying on something flat ..
