Hi again,

While out taking photos of ants and leafhoppers I also came across this rather mean looking longhorn beetle.

Great detail and lighting in both shots. I think I would prefer it if the antenna wasn't cut off in the second shot, but then you'd lose some detail. By the way, I thought they were longicorn beetles.

Thanks for the comments.

I was a little annoyed I chopped off his antannae off but I couldn't compose the shot any other way with where he was on the plant.

As for the name. I believe that Longhorn and Longicorn beetles are one and the same. According to Wikipedia (just did a quick search) Longicorn is an archaic term used to describe Longhorn beetles :)

If you believe Wikipedia. Do a Google search for longicorn beetles and limit the search to Australia. Do the same thing for longhorn beetles. longicorn wins hands down. I guess that makes Australia archaic. :P

Very good point. Everything I have ever learnt tells me not to even click on the Wikipedia link when it comes up in Google... but it's always at the top!! :)

The person who initally ID'ed the beetle was from Austria so maybe they use the term interchangably?

Anyway... I think I may have found what my little guy is (you are correct with the Longicorn).

An Acacia Longicorn Beetle. There are others that look similar but I think this one is the closest.

Thanks for clearning that up for me.
