Well, the Bathurst Motor Festival has come and gone for another year. Was a good (and first) opportunity to get the D700 trackside, and it didn't disappoint. Also was a great opportunity to meet some friendly faces, Trent (MCWB), Michael_ , Barry and Jeff for the first time in a few months.

Image

Early morning, pit lane. The D700 shines through with ISO 2000.

Image

Eric Bana. Oddly, despite being there to promote his new movie, and off course, race, he banned photographers from his press call... ass!

Image

Michael, portrait of professionalism.

Image

Mt Panorama is hard on brakes? Really? About lap 4, 12 minutes into 12 hours.

Anyone who may be thinking of a D700 for sports or low light shooting, short of buying a D3, this is the body. WIth the few mods to make it 8fps, it is a great camera!

There are some awesome shots here!
I really like #'s 1 (amazing low light capability and fantastic leading line!), #3 (sillhouette of Michael is great!), and #4 (great panning, something I've never been able to do well at all).

I'd love to get out to a 'track' day in the future and give it a whirl!

How's about a DSLR track day meet? A big one? Far enough away to plan ahead successfully?

Good to catch up with you however may prove to be a bit expensive after seeing the new D700.
i guess it's only money.

Number 1 for me. I think you've managed to capture the magic of bathurst. The photo just has a surreal aspect to it.
When you end up with a result such as this it seems well worth the effort to get up early.

Love number 4 as well. The sharpness of the subject and the glowing brakepads. Awesome shot

Thanks for the comments folks. It was a great 4 days, and Sunday was excellent.

The lens fitted for the first image is the venerable Sigma 24-70 2.8. An absolute workshorse of a lens, have never been able to fault it! Michael and I got trackside about 4AM, and the results were worth it, some excellent shots to be be had of teams preparing and the pits coming to life.

#4 is is great.
They look awsome in low light as do some exhausts and extractors.
