Results: Avalon Airshow 2009Pretty ordinary day imo, I struggled with the pictures in the small amount of time I had. As someone else has mentioned the light is all wrong at this place! they should have the crowds on the other side....
anyway these are two that captured the static and flying display for me. I have many others but more from a engo's perspective then photography! The first with the 100-300mm f5.6 and the second with the 17-55mm f2.8 gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Results: Avalon Airshow 2009I prefer the first one. It's almost static, but for the the blades at the back. Out of curiosity, what ISO and speed did you use?
Re: Results: Avalon Airshow 2009
the lens is a old manual one, from memory I was on f8 (could well have been f5.6 tho), iso 100 and shutter 1/1000s I have found this combo gives the sharpest results for this lens, especially without a tripod, trying to handhold anything lower than 1/750 is a real struggle for me. I was exposing for the white cloud with the intention of recovering the detail of the rotorcraft in PP, especially since the subject side of the machine is in the shadow, gerry's photography journey

Re: Results: Avalon Airshow 2009How do you know there is an airshow in town? ..... its raining!
What a sad weekend for flying enthusiasts. I went down on Friday and it was a reasonable day but as the evening pulled a low cloud base came in at just 200 feet that put an end to most displays for the evening. I was listening to the tower and even the F/A-18s had two goes at landing after their fly past (in cloud). By the time the F-111 did its thing it was flying in a mist. I was told by a client that I was not needed for Saturday which was lucky given that 20mm of rain went through the bay during the course of the day... then I was meant to fly form Morrabbin for Sunday but this time the problem was a strong westerly crosswind that our light aircraft was not going to manage (along with a very soggy grass strip. Bit rough on the whole. The one thing I am pleased about is that I did not spend $$$ on a gold pass for the weekend.
Re: Results: Avalon Airshow 2009Well i know what you mean as Friday was not nice for the camera at some stage as very hazy and well i got a wet ass Saturday so i am now sitting here going through some of my shots so will post some up as soon as get some ready, but i must say from when i was there in 1999 not a lot has changed only then it was bloody hot and this time crappy and wet.
Anyhow good pics considering conditions. Cheers BBJ D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X
