AFL Footy @ Bruce Purser OvalWent out to Bruce Purser Reserve in Rouse Hill last night for the AFL pre-season practice match between Sydney and the Western Bulldogs. I believe it was the first footy game played there in the brand new oval, which will be used by East Coast Eagles in the Sydney AFL Premier League. Very pretty ground.
The lighting was surprisingly good for a ground of this type and size in Sydney. Still quite dim by TV or camera standards, but very comfortable for viewing. Took some shots with the D300 and 70-200VR. Auto ISO pushed out to ISO1600 at times, but still looked pretty good out of the D300, at least at screen resolutions!!! A D700 or D3 pushing to ISO3200 would look brilliant. My keeper rate understandably dropped as the evening wore on, and the setting sun disappeared... But I still got IMO a few nice ones on the night anyway. Damn it's nice to be posting shots OTHER THAN baby photos!!!!
Re: AFL Footy @ Bruce Purser OvalAll great shots imo, good to see the 70-200 had the reach there! those shots look like they came from something longer!
well theres only one person to blame for that..ok maybe two gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: AFL Footy @ Bruce Purser OvalGreat photos, pity it was two lousy footy teams...

Re: AFL Footy @ Bruce Purser OvalCheers guys. Yep, the 70-200VR does pretty well, however you really are limited to action that is happening within about 50-60 metres. At the small grounds it is also easier to get on the fence without being beaten up by security
