Clipsal 500 aircraft shots

OK, apart from the girls of the Clipsal 500, there were some other things going on. My automotive shots are pretty boring, so here are some other shots:

The Roulettes:

One of the RAAF aircraft trying to land on pit straight:

While this isn't the best shot, I do like how the angle makes it look like it was taken from another aircraft:

I took lots of photos of the V8 cars, but here's one of Jamie Whincup:

Interesting, three of these shots were taken with my D70. Only the last one was taken with the D2Xs. All using the 80-400VR.

I have to say that #3 is really good. I love it, it does look like you were in another aircraft for that one!

I don't know. Looking at previous years they didn't have them.

Thanks. Did you see the ones of the Fox Models beachwear parade?

Great shots Daniel, as for the FA18 it is the ARDU plane from the base - it is a test and development plane, it regularly conducts tests up at Woomera. The stickers are there so that the cameras have a sense of scale when they are analysing the footage of the results. This plane and the new weapons gets put through the ringer and when the Aircraft Research and Development Unit deem the new weapons safe, they get fitted to the ones flying for the Defence Force.

Thanks Ben.

Luck. 8)
The plane was flying overhead on probably a 90degree angle. I don't remember but I guess he was banking around. That day had a little bit of rain, so for once we had some nice looking clouds around. I tracked the plane with the 80-400VR/D70 (at 300mm apparently) and held down the trigger. In post processing of the NEF, just blackpoint, contrast, saturation and I rotated the image a bit to make the plane horizontal.

Ah, that explains it, thanks. This looks like the same plane as back in 2006, but last year they had a different one.

Great set of images... and just goes to show how good the D70 was and still is!!! You don't always need huge pixel counts to get great images!!! :)

Thanks Paul. The D70 is a capable second body, but I do prefer the D2Xs. :D
I like to crop my images in post to better frame the images and I find the 6Mpx a little small sometimes. I find 12Mpx is plenty for me.
