I use a Photoshop plugin from AKVIS, aptly named Sketch.

Chris,

That's almost lithographic in style.

And it reminds me something that I used to do way back when .... I'd use a fine dot texture map and place that on the baseboard, above the unexposed paper. I would then enlarge a neg, projecting it through the texture map onto the paper. The result was not unlike the typical halftone representation you would see in newspapers.

Very quirky Chris - I like this effect!
Perhaps a 'before and after' may invoke some more discussion?
