Two beautiful poignant shots there Patrick, both of them you should be happy with!
If you're after a bit of a critique:
Image One:Pro's - BEAUTIFUL contrast of him against the blue sky.
I personally like his eye direction, obviously looking at something/thinking about something that is about to invoke a smile/happy thought!
Cons - This seems to be a nice afternoon light (?) that's golden...his face looks a little TOO yellow to me which could easily be 'fixed' in
PS, but obviously if you're happy with it and like that it reminds you of the 'golden hour' or time of day it was shot, it doesn't necessarily 'need' to be 'fixed'.
I'd like to see a little more fill on his face as the shadows from his hair are a little distracting.
Image 2:Pro's - Eye contact is brilliant and I love the b&W conversion. The DOF is great as you've got some of his hair, all of his face and a bit of his jumper in focus, with the eyes and catchlights (awesome!) really sharp! Great!
Cons - I'm not sure about the landscape styled crop...I'm not sure if the darkness in the left hand side lends itself favourably to this shot, however others might think it helps frame him in the shot, and if I'm not wrong you've added a slight vignette to this (evident on top right and bottom right corners).
Thanks for sharing! He's growing - fast!
