Bare IslandGetting up for sunrise really sucks, at this time of year its that little bit easier, I have been to Bare island twice (for photos) and both times I feel I have struggled, overcast sunrise, struggling to find compelling subject matter..blah blah blah.. I think I will put it down to the brain not working properly that early in the morning.
Anyway, here are a few that I got this morning. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Bare IslandLooks like some good shots on a hard day.
Like number 1 especially, didnt know about the location. Just down the road, might check it out. D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: Bare IslandThese are different for you Gerry.
How many apart from #2 are HDR? Regards Colin

Re: Bare IslandLove the HDR! The texture in 2# is really nice.
Re: Bare Islandbiggerry = bigshowoff!
Bloody good HDR work on each of these with #2 being my favourite. In #1 I'd be inclined to crop the land from the top. #3 doesn't grab me - I think there's not enough interest in the shot. #4 is odd (in a nice way) in that it looks almost like a painting. Peter

Re: Bare IslandYep, #2 and #4 for me too. Very nice work on the second, did you actually use HDR or just some good NX2 work (as per exif)?

Re: Bare Island
I definitely recommend it, if the photos are not on then fishing is pretty easy, just gotta aviod all those cursed divers... Also doing the Fort tour is good, pretty good for 8 bucks or whatever it is.
Thanks colin, I really love the misty water shots, like waterfalls and stuff like that, I had it in my mind to go there and get some those misty water over rocks with strong subjects etc.. but really most of those really did not meet my expectation. So hence I did try something different with a few shots delibrately taken for hdr processing. ONly the second and forth image are hdr. The first 3 were taken with a polariser and ND8 stacked, the last was just with the polariser.
the shadows on the protruding parts really turned out nice. very suited for hdr imo.
I can attribute trying out hdr thanks to seeing some of your pp master skills in recent pictures, namely the cocktoo island ones.
yeah i can definitely see how that would help, in all my shots of the rocks and water i was really looking for those leading lines and 'compelling' subject maybe in this one the compelling subject can be the lines
as above, the colours and lines are what i was drawn to, but again that subject thingy....
This one looked quite nice as shot, but since i was in a groove for hdr by that stage i thought...why not. Its a interesting result. thanks for the comments all, i really appreciate it. fyi, couple of other threads on Bare island here here with some nice PP action this one i really just wanted to see the octopus going for it gerry's photography journey

Re: Bare Island
#2 and #4 hdr, I think #4 could be achieved without hdr, however #2 just comes alives with the hdr. All images finished in NX2 gerry's photography journey

Re: Bare Island
that got me thinking, here is a quick bash I had at the original nef file, its not quite as good but with some work you could probably get there.. gerry's photography journey

Re: Bare IslandDidnt even realise they were HDR on the first look. V nice work, I always overdo it on HDR

Re: Bare IslandGreat work Gerry. You seem to have Capture NX2 down packed, and HDR, I love how your HDRs dont look fake.
#4 will have to be my favourite, I just love the almost painted effect. Cameron

Re: Bare IslandBeautifully done
Re: Bare IslandReally like the texture and pattern of the rock "wave", torn between the more saturated one you posted later and the original. Also really like the last wider one of the island and bridge, the HDR gives it a "Tolkien" feel to it that I find hard to explain, a surreal / fantasy feel I guess which I associated with middle earth.
Re: Bare IslandI like #2 and 3 for the lines and colours. I think #1 would have been better had the white water been less prominent. I like the idea and appreciate how hard it can be to expose for the white stuff. Very good for a bad day!
Re: Bare Island
All my HDRs look fake! Nice shots Gerry, especially #1, it is sensational. I was down here Wednesday of last week (at the Seafood Restaurant, not the island) and enjoyed an incredible sunset. It is a beautiful spot that is very close to the city. Ozi. President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)
