After more trips to the Adelaide zoo than I care to mention - Finally I got me a tiger

Deb - a very nice sharp shot (sparkling eyes) Sumatran Tiger . A pity about the greenery in the front, but other than that you have done extremely well.

That's a good shot Deb.
I don't mind the greenery in front. That's tricky to avoid.
You might want to check the white balance, it looks slightly on the yellow side.

I would also check the white balance, looks very yellowish here too. Tigers look best when you can get the slightly reddish, rich tone in their coat.

Good on you for getting eye contact too.

+1 for the white balance (but I have only looked at it on my dodgy old laptops screen and an uncalibrated LCD at home).

Great photo though.

It was shot at 9:35 Sunday morning, he had finished eating and was sitting middle of the enclosure near the back (hence behing the grass)- he then rolled over and went to sleep. Your'e right about the white balance it looks off and too yellow - the light was really strange he was in dappled shade, it was raining slightly, partly cloudy with patches of bright sun and a dark grey sky so I shot on auto - but it was shot in raw so I'll have a tweek tonight.
I was just glad to finaly see his face and will probably be there opening time again this Saturday and or Monday to try and get the shot right.
I was also pleased with the fill flash - something BigV taught me at Monartoo
Might catch up at the zoo over the weekend if anyone else has nothing to do

Deb, nice shot there and i agree with Daniel but still a good shot and we know how long it can take to get a good shot of the tiger as we all know how long how long our resident stalker spends time at that very spot.(stalker = Fozzie) LOL

Great grab Deb. It really is a hard to get a great shot of these big cats, and as others have said you did well.
Having spent a number of years working in and around zoos with the ABC can I suggest a couple of ways to get "that shot". Try and get to know the keepers of the big cats. If they learn your passion for their passion who knows you might be able to get in a little earlier and get the shot when these guys are really active. (as soon as they are let them out of their night quarters) I have given some of them photos I have taken and they love it.
We always filmed the big cats first thing in the morning, and the keepers add extra little incentives for the cats to give them some challenges.

Hmm... "You might want to check the white balance," it looks a little magenta around white parts of the lower face.
I find I usually end up changing WB by hand. Sorry.
