The Search For The Fugitive

Let's dive in and see what you all say :!:

A couple of weekends ago, the Police Air chopper was flying low around the place one Saturday afternoon very obviously looking for someone. As I was someone who was pointing a longish cylindrical object at the chopper, I very definitely got an eyeballing (until they realised that it was a 100-400mm lens and not a rocket launcher).

nice shots, really like #3 and #4 I am always a sucker for chasing flying objects with my camera.

That 100-400 is big round and white, so I guess it would be better than a Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 (even bigger and in green)

ah the 'ol polair boys...

I very definitely got an eyeballing

unless they got that funny white thing at the front left pointed at you...i would not be worried...

quite frankly these guys are in my Sony boooks at the moment, twice in six months they have hovered/circled over our area at 2am in the morning...

if you interested in waht it looks like thru one of those funny white things (sometimes called Flir  ) check out these vids, this was only configured for fire fighting...I am sure the polair one has a tidy zoom on it and something (gyros) that puts VR to shame :D
Flir vids

now, to the pictures...i really liek the last one, you have almost got it in the isometric position, or better known as the 3/4 position which makes it very pleasing to look at, also some good blur on the blades too, well done.

Very nice shots!

I like being able to see so much detail in #1, although the last one is very nice as well.

HI there,
I like these shots. 5,1 and 3 would be my favourites - in that order. They are nice and clear.

I think the weakest is 2. Hidden behind the trees, with strong light and the tail is chopped off.

Yeah, with #2 I tried to convey a "hidden" look while they searched. I'm a bit borderline myself with regards to whether I pulled it off.

These were shot into the light whereas in the opposite direction I got completely blue sky. Plenty of detail in those shots in much clearer light (shot at 1/1000 sec I froze the blades - obviously a trade off in clarity, brightness and detail vs motion), but these were the better action shots.

It was nice and bright so they couldn't have made a mistake unless they were blind, but they seriously took a good look at me. You don't go pointing something at the helicopter with out getting properly checked out. I do have other pics that show that better but they aren't as well composed (hence not posted). I wasn't the only one to come and have a look. They were really flying quite low and it's the sort of thing that never happens around here so it was a bit of a novelty for the local residents.
