Went down to the coast for the weekend with the wife - and of course the camera went with me. However, I am strictly forbidden under pain of death to point the camera anywhere near her. So, I had to console myself with other subjects. Where we stayed was in the middle of a nature reserve and there is obviously quite extensive wildlife around (and very noisy wildlife at that.) Here is a couple of photos of one feathered bird that was very friendly and was quite an expert when it came to having his/her photo taken.

Mark no 4 is great. What lens did you use? Your closeness to the bird is quite amazing

I can remember with the 70-300 lens that I was so close that it would not focus and I had to step back so that it would. According to the specs of that lens, its closest focusing distance is 1.5m. So, yes I was able to get quite close.

Where we stayed, they have a journal for visitors to write about their stay. One entry mentioned that when cooking steaks on the BBQ, to watch out for the Kookaburras!!!!! So although they are wild, they are quite friendly especially if food is available.
