I have been away from Oz for most of the last 3 months. In fact, I have had very little browsing time. Thankfully I should be home for a few weeks now. I haven't posted any images for a long time on DSLRusers, but I thought I had better get into action, especially with Glen's generous 2for1 offer still going...

I shot a wedding on Saturday in Armidale, beautiful day with tricky light, and amazing autumn colours. Here's a few images from the day. The images are completely unprocessed, and I am doing this on my (pretty hopeless) non calibrated Macbook screen, so I have no idea how the colours will look. I will be colour correcting the images later.

Inside the Falcon, shot from the front seat with Canon 10-22mm and 430 EX flash bounced off the car ceiling.


OK, it would have been better with a classic Holden, but we used what we had. Shot with Canon 24-105mm & flash. The couple look soft in the compressed image but the print will be nice and sharp.

The church was dingy, the light was almost non existent, but we managed. Canon 24-105mm & flash.


Portrait taken in home before ceremony. Canon 24-105mm & bounced flash. The light was changing almost every 5 seconds, so it made for some tricky photography.

thats a bit rough for the city of churches

I reckon those pictures will turn very nice once you have PP'ed them, the last definitely needs a little cropping imo.

I thought Adelaide was the city of churches?

Yeah, I haven't even started to look at the raw images yet. Not too fussed on raw to be honest, I never seem have the time to process the images correctly.

For the most part, the colours actually look pretty good. The first one is certainly spot on, IMHO. The second and third are a nudge cyan, and the other two a little bit warm. None of which is offensively off.

yes, Adelaide is citied as the city of churches, however Armidale is also known as the city of the churches, not being so well known probably due to its significantly less population (typically 20k w/o uni students).

Referring to the world's most reliable source , the internet and google, one finds numerous references to Armidale being also known as the 'city of churches', also having lived there I can vouch for the excessive number of churches for such a small population...

Sounds like Modesto. But Armidale does have some redeeming features, which is not something one can say about Modesto.

Back to the photos...

You have got the exposure in the first spot on - the view out the windows could have easily been very over-exposed.

The two photos with the XB trouble me - the first, with the groom and his hand in his pocket (correct?) makes him look indifferent. Also, positioning them to stand in front of the brightest part of the scene means their faces blend too much into the sky background. Both shots require some cropping as the subjects are too small. Finally, they should have used the coupe.

Appreciate your comments Reschs. I suppose in hindsight there's a thousand things I could have done differently, but we had approximately one hour to take all the photos in two different locations, and we were flying. As it was, the whole wedding ran two hours overtime, and the Rabbitohs were playing....grrrrrr.

Again, in hindsight, I should have taken everything in RAW as well as jpg. As it was, I took some RAW and some jpg. I have just processed the RAW files that were taken and they certainly are better, especially from the 24-105, which is a soft-ish lens. However, this lens does give images with some pop to them. I would love to try it on a full frame body some day. That will be the next purchase,

Overall, I was very happy with the day and I think we'll get some excellent keepers which should make the happy couple...err, happier.
