Ready for takeoff

Open to critique...
My first thoughts: a little more depth of field would have helped to show more of the fly - but the narrow depth does tend to contradict the real scale of the fly possibly helping to suggest an unnatural enormity. Blacks could be a bit more black (bearing in mind this has only been cropped - no other post processing - so that's a quick fix I guess).
This shot was handheld - but with the amount I rejected I can definately see the advantages of using a tripod and remote trigger.
Starting to get more comfortable with the gear now
