Open to critique...

My first thoughts: a little more depth of field would have helped to show more of the fly - but the narrow depth does tend to contradict the real scale of the fly possibly helping to suggest an unnatural enormity. Blacks could be a bit more black (bearing in mind this has only been cropped - no other post processing - so that's a quick fix I guess).

This shot was handheld - but with the amount I rejected I can definately see the advantages of using a tripod and remote trigger.

I like it as it is..perhaps minus the little bit of OOF debris on the foreground.

I think that this would be stronger if the fly was a total silhouette.

surenj - I've retouched the foreground on this image and you're right makes a big difference

colin - might have a play with that - although I think the subtle lighting on the "underside" of the fly (this photo is actually upside-down ) I think helps to provide some more definition

I think it has a strangely voyeuristic feel to it
