thought id try something different, and use my 50mm to lightpaint.
i have uprgraded the light that i mount inside the softbox aswell.

im fairly pleased with this image, just need to work out the path the light should take a bit more. but it was very windy when i did this last night so i thought id leave it for another night.

30 sec exposure f/8.0 ISO 200, show RAW and adjusted whitebalance in lightroom

I like it mate, I like the darkness with the dark vehicle. I would have been tempted to clone out that yellow light though. What you using for your lighting? Softbox with LEDS?

later on i might clone out the yellow light, i didnt realise it was even showing in the cars paint till i got the camera home and uploaded the photos.

Looking good mate, you need to get up over the top of the car a bit more and the tops of the panels in general i think, maybe the spoiler too, even though your rims are black, which is awesome, i love black rims on cars, light them up a tad more, and most importantly, get yourself a remote, will let you get longer exposures out of the camera which will mean your not so rushed...

Here is a quick post on lighting a car on Strobist. Another option is to take multiple exposures and layer them.

While that link is helpful, its not really the effect the OP was aiming for, one of the most talented at light painting i have seen is another member on here Tangcla, http://www.tangcla.com/photos/eurotrash ... G_7835.jpg, thats an example of his work, while 5 speedlights can light the car well, lightpainting gives an entirely different effect...

cheers doc, i do have a remote but it wasnt used for this shot. i find that the longer the exposure the darker the car becomes and it wasnt picking up light aswell. but i havnt tried it yet with the 50mm. i did go out the other night and played around with some more photos without it. and the 50mm is alot better than the kit lens.

i am also finding it hard to find a location that isnt too far away, but still has a decent backdrop. but that is proving to be too hard so im thinking of heading out to surrounding country areas were light wont kill the pictures.

ill work on the points that you have said though.

here is another picture i have done, this spot is dark but the surrounding street lights burn into the paint toomuch for my liking.



and a close up at the same spot as you can see the streetlights ruin the look.

Yep, I did miss the point a little. Nevertheless, using layers with any long exposure shots can open up a number of opportunities and would be a useful technique to try with lightpainting.

Sounds very interesting. Since don't have a SBxx yet, might give this a try using an ordinary handheld torch.

Wow never heard of light painting before - but it's such a great idea. Judging from the results quite a great way to get a pic. Good job auxr! Darn it why did you guys have to show us another technique to learn and explore!? Just kidding, can't wait to try it

Thanks for the tips Gary. When using an SBXXX do you mean using a snoot to direct the light and flashing every so often along the path of your object or another technique?

here are the last couple i did earlier on tonight, i wanted to get out of the city so headed out north and ended up at the entrance gates at mallala raceway.

i chose my gf's car for a bit of a change.





this one got really bad noise, i should of put it down to f6 or something to help

Woo it makes the car look like its got new Matte paint! I especially like that last picture and the background from the 3rd one.

That is nice, have you tried any other angles??

yeah tried a few other angles, if the panel is flat towards the camera it reflects the light well, i am working on lighting bonnets up better.

i want to go out tonight and do my car and my gfs car in the one shot, hopefully the wheather holds up
