This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.
Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.
Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Hello, I returned late yesterday afternoon after having an incredible girls weekend away. Myself and 3 other close friends (all mums) decided we needed a break, so we took off down the coast to a family beach house at Pt lonsdale on the cost of Vic near Queenscliff. While i was there i thought i would take advantage of my oportunity without the kids crying and husband nagging me to hurry up, to take some pictures of the pier. This is my first ever attempt at night shots, and i had a ball, i am pretty happy with my shots but if you can advise me for the next trip of some ideas i would love it! Pier Shot#1  Pier Shot#2  Pier shot 3 from lookout  Pier Shot 4 from lookout  I do love these shots, i have changed the saturation levels in the lookout shots, but i love the black and white look, thats all the editing done to these shots. Great to hear that you have managed to get some time off and have enjoyed yourself!
#2 and #4 are definitely better than the other two, but these lack a visual focus, they dont say much as the eyes are quickly drawn to the bright lights. I am assuming that you are using a tripod or a support of some kind, which is good I would try to push the exposure to bring out a bit more detail in the sky (maybe a wider perspective) or alternatively get down low and shoot down the length of the pier, but you will need to have a play around.

Thanks cam, yeah i understand what your suggesting, so thank you. I was using a tripod, although up on the lookout the wind was so strong and so cold i thought it was really gonna fly off in the breeze, lucky it didn't really show in the pics though.
I too like #2 and #4, i like the crop, kinda 1/3 system works well i think. I will try your suggestion next time i am there, i did get a shot under the pier but the tide was coming in too quick and within 2 shots it had moved up to my tripod, so i quickly packed up b4 i got stuck and wet! I might add these ones afterwards. Thanks again cameron
