It was great catching up with some many photogs both new and old, it was a bit hard with the crowds the keep the crew together, but I hopefully recruited a few random togs to hopefully join the forum.

Love the HDR crowds! It really makes you want to be part of it eventhough I knew (and experienced) it was really not that desirable to navigate that crowd. This could be a poster shot for the event to draw the crowds!

Great stuff Craig!

So that is what fire/water is meant to look like!

Yes Cam it was actually pretty cool, but we were politely asked to sit down as we were 1 row from the front so I only grabbed a few shots the rest of the time I was watching from ground level, pretty damn uncomfortable really. The boat rising out of the water, then burning and sinking was very well done, the rest of the performance was a little hard to follow.

#1 is a great shot, well done.

Was the boat burning real? This is a shot of what happens on the Shetland Isles each year at the Up Helly Aa festival. They build a new one each year then burn it to the ground.

Craig - this was a replayable event every hour, so while the flames were real the boat wasn't actually burnt. The show starts with the boat submerged (and you may not notice its there), then it rises, some actors run around it, and then set fire to it, and it sinks back into the cove fairly dramatically. But its all fuel burning, not the actual boat.
