I shot a bellydance show tonight, in preparation for a burlesque show tomorrow night at the same venue.







All shots Nikon D300 | 70-200 2.8 | 1/125s @ f5.6 ISO 400. 2 remote speedlights. I love Nikon's CLS!

I think these are excellent. Great lighting.

Kevin - you have a very nice technique working for you at the moment. I am sure the same results will carry over to the burlesque show tonight.

They dance on your belly????

Lovely shots! Great lighting especially in difficult and tricky lights that seem to happen on stage.

I would be really keen to see your EXIF data and a rough idea of where the flashes were in relation to the stage etc.

For stage shows I always use manual mode, and the same with the speedlights. For this show I mounted 2 speedlights about 2.5m off the ground above the front edge of the stage, and about 4m apart, both on 1/8 power. If you look at shot #1 you can see the 2 shadows under her nose. I set the speedlights to achieve 1/125s @ f4 center stage, and then I adjust aperture depending on the dancers position. You have quite a bit of latitude shooting raw so you can get away with less than perfect exposures.
