Water

I got some pointers from the Hasselblad fella in PMA photographing water. He had an umbrella as background (key) and bare strobe from below (?as fill). Seamless background completed the picture.

I thought I'd replicate that at home. Well not quite....

Here is the result. Critique as always, much appreciated.

Here is the setup. I had to use the Hasselblad to photograph this so you can't see it.

You'll have to get another one just to photograph your setups.

thats awesome surenj, i am gonna go home and have a crack at that! at first when looking at the image i got the impression it was crooked, however in fact its due to the shape of the vase - I also like the tint, great stuff

But you don't explain the purpose of the Coco Pops box ?????

mmmmm cocopops, gees Gary, clearly its quality product placement, surenj has shares in Kellogs (do they make cocopops?)

clearly its quality product placement,

What? Next to the garbage bin?
Still it IS Coco Pops so I guess that's appropriate. BTW, I forgot to say earlier. Great photo, but maybe an extra light on the background to ensure it's all white

No Cocopops were hurt in this production.

Does anyone know why the reflection is somewhat blurred? OOF or diffraction from the thick hardened glass on this table?

Great shot. Going to try it now too....

I think there's two things here. Firstly, the table almost certainly isn't flat so there'd be a bit of a wave there. Secondly, I think there's also a second reflection from the bottom surface of the table. If memory serves, ordinary glass reflects about 4% at each interface so that could be it.

Of course the Coco pops are essential nutrition. That's what all Dr's tell us right?
I like this Surenj. It shows us a result as well as showing everyone where to start. Fantastic.
I like the reflection regardless of the clarity issue you feel you have.

Thanks Dan and Colin. i think you are right colin. There may be slightly overlapping reflections. Hmm.. I wonder what will happen with a polariser in the lens or flash  I am not sure about the levelness of the picture. I tried for a long time to level it out in photoshop. There seems to be a 1.3 degree discrepancy which I can't seem to correct. When I do correct it, it looks crooked! Go figure.

Colin, this is not a new idea. See the STROBIST for more details. This can 'almost' be done with flash on camera! I tried it a few times but could reduce the flash power down significantly when it's close (inverse square blah blah..)

I would never recommend COCOPOPs as essential for anyone. Considering the circumstances it was essential for me. BTW I keep it in the fridge  i am dealing with a flour weevil infestation at the moment.

I know how you feel. We have had a pantry moth infestation this year.
They are most irritating to say the least.
To many organic products in there!

yeah been there done that too...a real pain in the ass - best to start with all new stuff and get lots of tupperware containers!

That's what all Dr's tell us right?

I was trying to convince the petti-coat giverment that a doc had said cocopops were essential, but alas, i still have no cocopops...

Thats for teh illustration Surenj, very helpful, however whats with the horse sized syringe there?
