The big ship USS George Washington (CVN 73) is a Nimitz class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. On July 2, 2009 the USS George Washington anchored on Fremantle's Gage Roads, accompanied by Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens which docked at Fremantle harbour

I likes the BIG ship!! It is a shame that the Tomcats have been retired...I never managed to get any pics of them.

Where is the rest of the battle group???

I like #2 for some reason...but the lights need to be toned down a bit...did you use a star cross filter?

Thanks aim54x
I'm not sure if the rest of the battle group will be joining up for operation Talisman Sabre, but there probably is a sub lurking nearby =)

#2 starburst was from the nine-bladed aperture of the lens rather than a filter, will try to post a toned down version later

I like #1 the best. It shows how enormous some ships are.

I also like #4 but it appears a bit soft on my screen.

#1 is definitely the best shot, it looks really impressive. I actually thought you shot it in black and white until I noticed a tiny red dot on the small boat in the foreground. I wonder if it would look even better reduced to greyscale then hitting the contrast a little- just a thought.

expensive tax payers beauty at that

#1 is also my pick of the bunch, as also mentioned I think a BW conversion would go a treat on this one! Looks like a nice sunset in the last one.

Yaaarrrrrr!!!!!!

100,000 tons AND a range of about 3,000,000 nautical miles on a tank of plutonium :)

The first image is the pick of the bunch.

Considering the Nimitz class has 10 vessels their total tonnage would be a lot more than the whole Australian navy

They put their equipment to good use [for example: world domination]

On the other hand, we only need to keep away the refuge boats and whalers....

Thanks for the constructive comments, I like #1 best too

@barry, number 4 could be soft because of the compression, 100% crop looks okay though there were some distortion effects around the radar array of USS cowpens, wonder if the array puts off enough power to distort the space time continium

@ian.bertram the link to the bw version is http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n260/hobbesken/uss-GW.jpg Tried a duotone version too http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n260/hobbesken/uss-GW-duo.jpg

Toned down version of 2 is http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n260/hobbesken/uss-starburst.jpg

I like the Duo version. It's the best of the 3.
