Just finished working on this image.
I used photomatrix to get more detail out of this raw image. Then I went back to
PS to intergrate the back layer which is a palm tree out of the park next to us. Love to hear what you think.

interesting take. must admit i've never seen that before. i cant say i'm a fan of the floating head, could you not oput his shoulders back in so its attached to something and leave the background in the rest of the iamge as a comparison ?
i like the portrait aswell. good face, but i think its underexposed quite a ways.
props for trying something different.

I think you hve a great image here, but as it stands I'm wth the others and the disembodied head detracts from the shot and I'd prefer to see the shoulders. If you want the disembodied head effect I think you need to avoid such a tight crop on the head - switch to a landscape crop, have more palm tree left and right and a touch more tree above and below the head and see if that works.

The lack of shoulders doesn't worry me (shrugs). Interesting image, but for me it seems a little dark and flat - maybe a touch more contrast? And the subject has such a wonderful face - what about a straight portrait?

Thanks for you C&C
Here is the original image without much work, the day was so bright that I stuffed the background.
Will give it another try with shoulders (didn't save the
PSD
)

Nice capture and his face has lot of personality.
I wuold suggest choosing a different background, perhaps a moody sky or something more contrasting to the face. The current background blends in too much and it's hard to seperate him from the background.
Since you have him effectively isolated, you can make the framing different as suggested by stubbsy.
