Osprey on the hunt

Went birding over the weekend and managed to capture some ospreys doing what they do best--hunt. Here are some of the shots, they are magnificient birds in flight

Funnily enough I managed to capture some after-dinner shots....of the osprey taking a dump but that might be NSFW

I think you have done well to take these images. Shooting birds can prove to be quite a challenge, especially with a camera.

Cheers Killakoala, the autofocus in the 5d mark II isn't to shabby IF you stick to the middle AF point

Ken they are some nice action shots, the after dinner cleanup one appeals to me, great side on profile shot. The only thing niggling me was the colour of the background, blends too much with the bird - however that is slightly out of your control!

what lens were you using? any crop?

Shooting birds can prove to be quite a challenge, especially with a camera.

Nice work, especially number three. Really sharp and detailed. although the bird and background are the same, for me number three still works as the bird is super sharp and the background is nicely out of focus. Great work.

Great shots, some blown out highlights in all of them but they are very nice.

What lens were you using? There is some NASTY chromatic aberration in #2

Thanks for the comments with regards to the photos, much appreciated.
@biggerry: Lens used was the bigma (sigma 50-500mm for 1 and 3), heavily cropped ~ 25% from the middle

@aim54x: Lens used for the middle shot is an oldschool manual focus OM 600mm f6.5 zuiko (photo heavily cropped from the very edge which may explain the LCA, Thanks for the tips, had a quick go in lightroom and recovered the blown higlights in 1,2,3 and minimised the LCA in 2



@ian.bertram: Would have a liked a better background too...may have to get out the pruning shears

@debT: I liked the last shot best too though the 1st was the most challenging
