man I hate the zoo, I hate school holidays and I hate crowds....

however, i was required at the zoo to chase after a little tacker for the whole day, this cumulated with a ferry, bus and train ride is more than enough for me to breath a sign of relief when walkign into work on a monday morning

However, I did take a few pictures there, the lighting was harsh in some spots and just not enough with f5.6 in others.

now suggestions for the future, go when its not skool holidays and early in the morning....

now i have 5 pictures here, I had to include a extra one of the little elephant, so I hope this it not too much of a pain.








comments suggestions etc more than welcome..

But don't think avoiding school holidays will get you out of trouble. Virtually every day the place is swarming with school excursions.
I used to be a Zoo friend when I lived down that way, and discovered the best time was late afternoon after all the kids had gone.

The second one is fantastic!!! I love the light and the seperation between them as if the little one got into trouble.

BTW the 2nd elephant is adorable!

yeah its pretty cute, got lots of 'ohhhs' and 'ahhhs' when it was walking (trying to anyway) around.

I used to be a Zoo friend when I lived down that way, and discovered the best time was late afternoon after all the kids had gone.

I would do almost anything to aviod the crowds I will keep this in mind for next time, can you remember what the lighting is late in teh afternoon? I would have thought with the sunrise and the eastly (sort of) aspect of the zoo this would be a better time (from a light perspective anyway).

I really want up close and personal, was originally looking for a colour version, but given the 'blackness' of their fur, them lend themselves well to BW images.
It is amazing to watch these animals, from this kind of pose through to the act of the mum/dad pushing the baby on the rope like a swing it really is something!
I think in this case the baby was trying to imitate the mum/dad, but I could be wrong...

To be honest I didn't pay too much attention. I never took a camera. I only had an FPHD at the time. Just used to pick an animal & observed it for an hour or two. You learn a lot about their behaviour that way.

The usual traits I observe with animals at the zoo is brooding anger and boredom...............funnily enough my kids are starting to display the same traits!

I really like the lighting in the #1 and #2. Nice captures! I might tend to think that you may have been in the zoo at the right time for lighting...

Love the light on the baby elephant and the way it has brought the hair out

The elephant shots are cute but the chimp shot is great.
I like the B&W treatment on this as well.
